In the May Taylor Town Council meeting, the Council heard an update from Town Manager Gus Lundberg on the Papermill Road paving project as well as the rodeo grandstands.
Lundberg indicated that the paving project should be completed this week. After Hatch Construction has completed Papermill Road they would then direct their attention to paving within Reed Hatch Memorial Cemetery; a project that was previously approved.
In addition to the paving updates, Lundberg notified the Council about the rodeo grandstands. Â The unsafe condition identified last year, along with Covid, canceled the rodeo in 2020. The safety issue was cracks in some of the structural components. These have been corrected and submitted to the engineer to sign off on.
The engineer, however, identified another issue. At several locations on the back and along the top of the grandstand, the cross braces do not extend all the way to the top. This causes more stress on the posts. Lundberg reported that this new issue should be corrected in time for the rodeo on July 3rd.
Other agenda items included discussion of whether Papermill Road should be renamed. No action was taken but the general consensus among the Council was that the road’s name should not be changed.
In addition, Mayor Smith brought up the idea of providing health insurance to Council members. The Council intends on having a special meeting later this week to discuss and possibly take action to give themselves health insurance through the Town’s provider. It was noted that several municipalities in Arizona provide this to council members.
