Taylor Town Council is considering publishing a new Fee Schedule regarding Utility rates for Commercial businesses. Focusing first on Sewage rates, the first proposed change would be for Churches. Currently, Churches receive the same rate as residential properties which is a flat rate of $38.39 per month, however, the city is looking to adjust that cost to $2.50 per 1000 gallons.
In addition to the sewage rate change for churches, the Town Manager asked for the council to review possible changes to the fee schedule for water as well. Once again, this would apply only to commercial businesses. The first item on their agenda would be to remove the cap on the water service charge. Presently, commercial businesses are charged $4.25 per 1000 gallons with a cap of charging no more than $250.00 per month. Going forward, the city would charge $2.50 per 1000 gallons with no cap allowing for an unlimited charge.
Multi-family housing units could also see changes. Rather than being charged a flat rate for the entire complex, the property would be charged the residential flat rate of $38.39 per unit within the complex. For example, a 20-unit complex running off of one meter would no longer pay the singular flat rate. The proposal would require that each unit pay the rate of $38.98.
Taylor is also looking at connection fees for new multi-family home construction as well as Mobile home parks.
The Vice Mayor stated, “I feel like if we had made zero improvement in our water and waste system over the last 8 years it would appear as if we were raising rates just because [….] But we know over the last 8 years we made significant improvement in our waste and water across the board.” Vice Mayor Brubaker went on to recite a lengthy list of actions and improvements the city has made and concluded with the sentiment that he agrees and believes it is fair to ask the town to share in the increases that arose from those improvements in this manner.
There was no Action called at this time, however, the proposed fee schedule has been available at the Town Hall for the last month and Town Manager Lundberg acknowledged that he was unaware of any person requesting that information and encouraged the townspeople to come to the Town Hall and review it before the hearing. As of yet, there has not been a date set for the hearing. As more information becomes available it will be updated here.
