Snowflake to Install Lights at Golf Course Driving Range
Nighttime fun is headed to the Snowflake Municipal Golf Course. In their February 2021 meeting, the town council approved a measure to install lighting at the golf course driving range. The new lights will allow for driving range use after dark.
APS is contributing to the project by providing 65 feet tall poles, setting them and designing the electric system. The town will have to provide the light bulbs and conduit. The council approved the purchase of twenty 750-watt bulbs designed for exterior sports lighting in the amount of $28,990.99.
Councilman Greg Brimhall sees a need for this. He stated that people are already going out late and hitting balls on the range. Brimhall is Snowflake High School’s golf coach.
In addition to the new lights, the council approved the purchase of 20 additional golf carts in their February meeting. This purchase follows a previous purchase of 20 golf carts last year. During the meeting, town manager, Brian Richards, stated that the town is moving away from leasing carts to purchasing them. He stated that instead of paying for a lease every few years that the town can own and maintain them which will cost less money overall. The cost for the 20 golf carts is $94,724 or $4,736 each.
In the previous fiscal year, the municipal golf course ran a deficit of $458,238. Expenses to run the course was $944,025 and the revenue brought in was $485,787. The shortfall, however, is an improvement than the previous year by approximately $30,000.
