Thursday morning, an accident involving a school bus occurred in Snowflake just north of the Cottonwood Wash bridge on State Route 77.
The crash occurred when the bus was stopped to pick up students to go to school. The Infiniti sedan was stopped behind the school bus and waiting for the school bus. The APS driver, Zachary Butler, stated he was distracted by geese in the field adjacent to the road and did not observe the bus stopped. The APS truck struck the sedan pushing it sideways into the back of the bus.
Thankfully, no injuries were sustained although the driver of the sedan was transported to the hospital for evaluation. The sedan was only occupied by the driver.
The APS driver, Mr. Butler, was cited for failure to control his vehicle to avoid a collision, a civil violation.
Chief Martin stated the following: “This is a stark reminder to our community of the importance of driving with caution and giving full attention to the roadway at all times. We are grateful that no one was seriously injured or killed in the crash. I urge our community to remember the responsibility and duty we all share to ensure our streets remain safe for everyone. Please keep your eyes up, your speed down and your seat belt buckled.”
