Snowflake’s Track and Field teams won state championships today, the first time in school history that both teams won state in the same year. The boy’s team won with a total of 77 points. 2nd place was ALA Queen Creek High School, who had 62 points. The girl’s team won with a score of 125 points. They beat out Sabino High School who collected 102 points.
46 athletes qualified between Snowflake’s boys and girls track teams for the state meet. Each track and field event has the top 24 qualifiers from around the state participate at the state meet. An athlete, however, can only participate in 4 events at the state meet.
At state, placing in the top 8 spots earns points for the team. 1st place earns 10 points, 2nd place earns 8 points, 3rd place earns 6 points, 4th place earns 5 points, 5th place earns 4 points, 6th place earns 3 points, 7th place earns 2 points, and 8th place earns 1 point.

This is head coach Lynn Johnson’s 4th title for Boys and 3rd title for Girls. Overall, the Boys track program has 8 titles dating back to 1959. The Girls team has won 3 in a row, 2018, 2019, and now 2021 (2020 season was canceled). The Silver Creek Herald wishes to congratulate the squads on a fun, entertaining, and successful season.
