The Snowflake Junior High School 8th grade boys basketball team was crowned White Mountain League Champions on Saturday at the Snowflake High School gymnasium. The team defeated Show Low in the championship game, 47-30.
Their league championship followed their undefeated 10-0 regular season. The Lobos dominated the league. The team had an average score of 50 points per game while holding their opponents to an average of just 19 points per game. The squad, led by coach Scott Patton, had a balance attack all season with at least 5 different players being the high scorer each game. Coach Patton stated that they won with intense defense which led to a lot of fast break points.
The White Mountain League consists of local junior high and middle schools including: Canyon Day, Holbrook, Joseph City, Mogollon, Payson, Round Valley, Saint Johns, Show Low, and Winslow. Snowflake has won the league twice in the last 3 years.
The team included Karter Raban, Asher Brewer, Cody Flake, Brock Ervien, Judd Flake, Aaden Coor, Ethan Christensen, Merrick Ulberg, Isaac Oakes, Ryker Brimhall, Ezra Baum, Trevin Flake (player- manager), and Jordan Hall (Manager).
