The Lobo basketball teams both advance to the final four in the 3A basketball tournaments. The Lady Lobos will host Winslow on Wednesday, March 17 at Snowflake High School and the Lobos will host Fountain Hills on Thursday, March 18. Both games start at 7pm.
The Lobos hosted Thatcher in the first round. They won that game 54-39. They played Florence in the quarterfinals game Saturday night and won 45-39. The Lobos jumped out to a 14-point lead after the first quarter but by the middle of the 4th quarter that lead vanished. Down the stretch, the Lobos, however, were able to make several layups and free throws to clinch the victory.
The Lady Lobos defeated Sabino in the first round, 64-33. In the quarterfinals, the Lady Lobos hosted Show Low making it the third matchup of the year against their divisional rivals. Show Low played well and maintained control of the game until late in the 4th quarter when Snowflake took the lead and held on to seal the win. Next week, it will be the 3rd meeting between the Lady Lobos and Winslow in the semifinal match on Wednesday.
If either or both Lobo teams win their semifinal games then the championship games will be played at Eastmark High School in Mesa on Saturday, March 20.
