Lobo Varsity Squads Celebrate Senior Night
Girls and Boys Defeat Payson and are Crowned Regional Champs
On Tuesday night, the Lobos hosted Payson. With the regular season winding down, the senior players were recognized on both the Girls and Boys teams. Both teams easily won their contests and by doing so, they secured regional championships for the 3A East.
Seniors Hannah Nichols, Marynda Caldwell, and Trysten Hancock were recognized prior to tonight’s game. The Lady Lobos then secured a win with a final score of 65-18. Senior Trysten Hancock led the way with a team high 14 points. The win follows the victories last week at Holbrook, 50-40, and at Blue Ridge, 55-22. In this week’s rankings, the Lady Lobos maintained their #2 ranking, trailing only Page, their sole defeat this year. The Lady Lobos finish their season by playing at Winslow on Friday, home against Thatcher on Saturday, and next Tuesday at Saint Johns. Currently, the Lady Lobos are 9-0 in region play and 12-1 overall.
The Boys’ team then defeated Payson, 76-50. Seniors Stewart West and Ammon Tingey led the way scoring with 24 and 14 points, respectively. Like the girls’ squad, the Lobos defeated Holbrook and Blue Ridge last week and have 3 remaining regular season games before tournament begins. The boys are currently ranked #2 behind Valley Christian. The Lobos’ record stands at 9-0 in region and 13-0 overall.
Seniors Stewart West, Ryson Stuart, Conner Hall, Ammon Tingey, Gannon Larson, Trey Perry, Caleb Johnson, and Michael Brimhall were recognized before their game. Each player was accompanied with their parents onto the court before the match.
With AIA guidelines being loosened, the high school allowed 4 spectators for each team player, up from the previous 2, and 75 senior students to the game.
