The Lobo softball team won Friday’s home game against Payson in extra innings by a score of 2-1. Each team scored a run in the 4th inning. That score continued until the bottom of the 10th inning when Snowflake scored a walk-off run.
The game was a pitchers’ duel. Payson was led by Raci Miranda who struckout 21 Lobo batters. Snowflake was led by Anna Berger who struck out 16 batters. Not only did Berger pitch a complete 1-run game, she scored both of Snowflake’s runs. According to Snowflake coach, Aaron Huish, both girls are headed to D-I colleges to continue their softball careers.
Huish stated that “it was amazing to come out and win that game and battle for 10 innings - our girls were mentally tough”. Coach Huish went on to say that it was one of the best games he had ever been a part of as a player or a coach.
The Lobos and Payson are the top two teams in the 3A East. The Lobos are ranked 4th in the state AIA rankings and Payson is ranked 6th. These two teams will meet up again on Tuesday in Payson to finish out the regular season. The state tournament begins Saturday, May 8. With today’s win, the Lobos have clinched a birth by virtue of being 3A East regional champions.
